0 You Car Means Nothing to Me

I’m a chronic public transportation user as so are many other commuters. 20 min drives didn’t seem like much before $4/gal. But now it just plain sucks.

When I lived in Green Bay I was sometimes made fun of as I didn’t have a car. Back then I took it personally cause you literally needed a vehicle to get around as public transportation was abysmal. But living in Minneapolis the same ridicule wouldn’t make much sense. Add more stop lights and signs, one-ways and fewer parking ramps than there are driving individuals and you got yourself a massive need for public transportation and Minneapolis/St. Paul are actively meeting that need.

I spend $6 a day on public transportation while my car-bound friends are spending $12, $15 and sometimes $20 just on fuel alone (this includes the average 20-30 min trip back home from work). Let’s not even think about lease and insurance payments. However, people are starting to get fresh with public transportation more and more and for that I commend those people. I’m completely miffed by the people who continue driving just because the bus doesn’t stop in the parking lot of their employer’s building.

Learn to walk

Walking is healthy and solves a very large wellness problem for the average American. Walking a few blocks to a bus stop won’t kill ya. Sure, it’s annoying and potentially uncomfortable, but honestly your body will love you for it. Try taking the bus for 2 weeks and see what happens. Your paycheck will establish a new appreciation for you.
