2 Programming Evades My Understanding
Had a light bulb this morning. Some of the reason I don’t grasp web programming is because I can’t consume the bigger picture as quickly or easily as I can CSS or HTML.
I know I talk a lot about “learning” how to program, but sometimes the subject just frequently gets lost on me. However, I am realizing more and more that learning will take a greater degree of commitment and a complete remapping of how I consume knowledge.
As I sit here in my favorite coffee shop, I realize that programming has a bigger picture and it moves around quite a bit. That picture also changes with every developer you work with. Yes, there are standard characteristics, but overall there is no shared target. With CSS/HTML, standards are shared in a very intentional way.
For me I will have to take things in smaller chunks, create my own picture and grow accordingly. That means lots of copying and pasting and learning how to write better code over time. Just like I did with CSS/HTML, I must insist on excellence and best practice. Really, that’s all it takes to be good at something, including a good old fashioned work ethic.

I’m really glad you posted this. I’m in the exact same boat as you are, and this post perfectly explains the position.
It’s good to know someone else actually deals with the same pitfalls as I.
